Failed camshaft. Found on aircraft that had been inactive and in a corrosive environment. All camshafts are flame hardened using a process called Nitriding. This produces an extremely hard wear surface down to about .007”. Once corrosion pits develop, the wear surface is compromised, the soft underlying steel wears down very quickly. Compare the lobe in the front to the one in the back on the photo.
